{"id":12169,"date":"2026-04-10T13:32:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T11:32:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kznaquatics.co.za\/?p=12169"},"modified":"2026-04-10T13:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T11:32:07","slug":"methula-returns-as-sas-top-divers-converge-on-boksburg-for-national-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kznaquatics.co.za\/?p=12169","title":{"rendered":"Methula returns as SA\u2019s top divers converge on Boksburg for National Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0<strong>PRESS RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10 April 2026 \u2013 South Africa\u2019s leading diving talent will take centre stage at the upcoming Bombela Concession Company National Diving Championships in Boksburg from 11-15 April, with plenty of attention on rising star Zalika Methula as she makes her highly anticipated return to the domestic stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The championships will mark Methula\u2019s first appearance at nationals since relocating to the United States nine months ago, where she joined the University of Kentucky Swimming and Diving programme, a move widely seen as a major step forward in her pursuit of international success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTraining has been going great, just keeping myself mentally strong for the last push of the post-season,\u201d said the neuroscience student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the country\u2019s brightest diving prospects, Methula has already built an impressive r\u00e9sum\u00e9 on the global stage, representing South Africa at the World Aquatics Championships at both junior and senior levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The experience of training in the highly competitive American college system appears to have already paid dividends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI definitely think I have matured as a diver and a person. I\u2019ve also become more consistent with my dives and gained confidence more towards championship season,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy goal [at Nationals] is to be consistent with all my dives and focus on the things I was taught through my nine months in the US,\u201d added the 20-year-old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Methula will contest multiple events at the championships, including the 1m and 3m springboard, as well as the synchronised competition alongside fellow international diver Bailey Heydra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite not having time to train together, the duo, who are based at different American universities, finished 14<sup>th<\/sup> overall in the synchronised 3m springboard event at last year\u2019s World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heydra, a consistent presence on the international circuit, has represented South Africa at world championship level on four occasions and recently wrapped up her college career in Nevada by winning the Mountain West Conference and being named her team\u2019s Most Valuable Diver of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With several South African divers now based in the United States collegiate system, including Grace Brammer at Penn State, the level of competition at the national championships is expected to be particularly strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy main rivals will mainly be the divers who also dive in the US,\u201d said Methula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bombela Concession Company National Diving Championships kick off at St Dominic\u2019s Catholic School for Girls in Boksburg on the morning of Saturday, 11 April.
